How to Make Your Make Up Last in the Heat
With heatwaves rolling in and destination weddings in full swing, you might be wondering how to make your make up last longer in the heat. I was recently asked by Stylist to share my go-to products for long-lasting make up, and it got me thinking about how much these little tricks matter when the temperature climbs. So here are the products I reach for to beat the heat and keep your make up looking flawless all day, whether you're a destination bride or simply trying to survive a British summer.
My favourite for long-lasting make up is still the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray. I use it before and after application, and in between layers as I go, to lock everything in bit by bit. It also has temperature-control technology that cools the skin as you spray, which helps your make up hold up in the heat.
My other go-to is the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray. I love how it gives a gorgeous radiant finish and moisturises the skin while it locks everything in. It feels weightless, it's sweatproof and waterproof, and it keeps your make up looking glowy all day. Over the top of that, I use the Kryolan setting spray as a finisher. Think of it as your make up insurance, because once that's on, nothing is budging.
If you prefer a more matte finish or you’re prone to an oily complexion, the new Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Matte Setting Spray is perfect. If you're like me and don't love an all-over matte look, use it just on your T-zone or any problem areas to manage shine there, and use the original spray everywhere else.
A handheld fan is one of my little secrets. Fanning between layers keeps the skin cool and helps each product dry down and lock in for a longer-lasting finish. I also use it right at the end, after my final spray, to melt everything together.
One thing I see a lot: brides reaching for more and more powder to fight shine, which usually just ends up looking cakey. Instead of piling it on, blot first. The Tatcha Blotting Papers lift excess shine without disturbing your make up. Press gently onto any shine, then turn the sheet over and do the same again. Then, if you need it, a light dusting of finely milled powder only where it's needed.
